the poetry

uprooted tree

Never forget y’all

Except the crimes that go

Always forgotten

Transplanted olives

Split y’all

New roots rotten

Bitter branches of foreign trees

All while

Branches claiming roots from the seeds

That bleed

Autumn to fall

The leaves call

For blood that boils

Against y’all

And still y'all

never tasted the rains that feed

the soil

A solitary acacia tree in a grassy plain.

peace

Peace

We all want peace, right?

Focus on the day and you won’t see the night

You turned off the lights, then handed us matches

Called it illumination

Then get mad when we ask if

Your christ would approve

“How dare you insinuate…”

Comfortable in your faith, asking

“You think a christian could hate?”

Yes

Protest is only effective when peaceful, right?

I know, I hear you

“You’re so negative”

“You don’t see the light, the good happening…”

You’re right

We should all be so willfully blind

Tell others to find hope

While minding their oppressors

Clinging to promises based in bias

While promoting your brother is lesser

Your faith a weapon of oppression

Disguised as hope

Christian aggression

Hope

For who?

The lessons gone

A rope bound by violence

And told to go pray in silence

“Hey, don’t be so negative”

“You’re only focused on the bad…”

I hear you, but I don’t feel you

Remember christ called YOU out when he turned the tables

But you’d rather picture the peaceful lamb of fables

Keep your god

Real hope is worth

Fighting for

Real hope is worth

Fighting for
